About the prevention works project
The Prevention Works Project aims to raise awareness about the rising trend of medicine abuse among teens and to educate parents and other concerned adults about the best ways to help prevent the teens and children in their lives from becoming involved in substance abuse. The central thesis of this campaign is the importance of talking to children early and often about these topics. According to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), teens who believe their parents would strongly disapprove of drugs, alcohol or tobacco are less likely than other teens to use these substances. Further, SAMHSA explains that the sooner parents talk to their children about substance abuse, the greater chance they have of influencing their children’s decisions.
